CHANGES IN OFFICE HOURS
From 15.4.2024 until 17.4.2024, M.A. Janáková´s office hours shall not be held.
On 18.4.2024, M.A. Kruteková´s office hours are cancelled.

Information for 1st-year students of PhD studies
During their studies, PhD students may attend the following subjects:

Effective Scientific Writing II (P834002)
PhD students may also choose a course from the offer provided by the Institutional plan. This involves specialised courses of English and general courses of German, Russian, French and Spanish.
The course Presentations (CZV00052) is designed to help students prepare for the English scientific conference, which is an obligatory part of PhD studies and serves as an exam from the English language.
The information on the subjects and language courses provided shall be delivered to students via email in due advance. The email also contains information on the enrolment options and dates concerning the individual courses of interest.
Foreign students studying in Czech doctoral programmes have to attend a two-semester course of the Czech language:

Department of Languages is a central department providing language training to all faculties of ICT within the bachelor, master and PhD programmes.
The main focus of the Department is on teaching professional language, which involves also the preparation of teaching materials and methodology for English and German LPS (Language for Specific Purposes) courses.
Optional courses include General English, French, German, Russian and Spanish lessons, as well as Business English.
Foreign students and Erasmus programme students are offered Czech Language for Foreigners.
Department of Languages also provides regular and intensive language courses designed for academic workers, UCT employees and PhD students.

Credit requirements
To complete the subject succesfully, students need to pass a credit test.
Participation in lessons and additional exercises are not compulsory.
To obtain the credit, students need a minimum of 50 points (out of 70 points available):
The points are obtainable as follows:
Credit test 50 points maximum
Active participation in lessons 10 points maximum
Additional exercises 10 points maximum
The 1st official test term shall take place during the final week of the semester (for this term, students do not need to register via the SIS system and have to apologise to their tutor for their possible absence in advance).
As the credit test is obligatory, it is necessary for the students to register for any other test terms in the Student system.
If a student participates in a credit test early term (so called pre-term) and does not pass it, they are entitled to continue attending the classes and gathering more participation points. Then, they need to sit for another run of the credit test once they have increased the amount of the points obtained. The higher amount of the seminar points shall be added to the total number of all the points scored in the following credit test attempt. It cannot and will not be counted retrospectively.
